Bronze, Loet Vanderveen (1921-2015), Cheetah

Black bronze cheetah sculpture by Loet Vanderveen (1921-2015). Signed and numbered (114/250) at base near tail. Has mottled gray black patina with gilt highlighted tail. Dimensions: 17"h x 24"l x 13.5"w. Accompanied by original Gumps sales receipt (1986). Vanderveen was born in Holland where he developed his love and study of animals as he lived near a zoo. He made his way to New York where he studied under Fong Chow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and learned the art of glazes and patinas. He moved to Big Sur, California and continued his work in bronze animal figures excelling in both the patinas as well as the naturalistic poses of the animals.
