Young Missouri Man in Planter Hat Identified Ninth Plate Tintype

This is a very sharp ninth plate tintype of a young Missouri man, Joseph H. Lee, age 18 years, made on August 3, 1861. This may be the Joseph Lee who served in the 5th Missouri Cavalry, called Syret’s Cavalry. He is wearing a formal coat, a starched shirt, and a broad-brimmed planter’s hat. The image is extremely sharp, and is in a tarnished gold matte in a half leatherette case. There is a note inside identifying him, and a photocopy of that note has been taped to the case. Dimensions: 2 ¼ by 2 7/8 inches in the case. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S.

Condition:

The image is excellent. The matte is corroded in the upper right corner. The half case is very good.
