USN 1841 Ames Naval Cutlass

A very nice example of an 1841 cutlass with no sheath. The markings on the blade are completely worn off, but the stamps on the hilt are present and entirely clear. The blade has the appropriate double edged leaf shape, with a shallow diamond shape. The hilt has a riveted scale grip, with the American Eagle cast into the pommel, and the heavy brass hand guard. The knuckle bow is stamped 60. The guard is stamped twice: 134, and M!. Dimensions: The cutlass is 26.5 inches long overall, with the blade being 20.875 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Very good condition overall. There is a light film of rust on the blade, and there are black rust stains in several areas. The hilt shows minor wear, the Eagles having been polished. The blade is remarkably sharp. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
