US Model 1861 Parker & Snow Musket with Rare Miller Conversion

An exceptionally nice Model 1861 Musket by Parker and Snow of Meriden, Connecticut, dated 1864, with original bayonet and sheath, sling, and the rare Miller conversion to .58 caliber rimfire.  The gun is a largely unaltered Model 1861 rifled musket, in the bright, but was one of 2000 altered by George and Walter Miller, also of Meriden, by adding a swinging breech black, creating a loading channel in the stock and flattening the nose of the 1861 style hammer. The gun is in its original length, with the original .58 caliber bore, and is fully marked on all parts. It is complete with leather sling and a Model 1855 bayonet in its original scabbard with belt loop. These rifles were issued to the New York and Maryland National Guard, primarily after the War. Dimensions: The musket is 56 inches long overall. The barrel is 40 inches long. The bayonet in scabbard is 22 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $80.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Overall the rifle is in about excellent condition. It remains in its original arsenal bright finish, with very minor stains and freckling to the metal. The bore has excellent rifling, with some old dirt and dust. The stock is very good, with a few minor handling marks. The cartouche on the area of the sideplate is faint, but visible. The bayonet shows minor wear, and is unmarked, but is correct and fits well. The sheath is very good, with minor flaking to the finish of the leather. The sling is excellent. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
