US 1913 Patton Saber Sword dated 1913 with Tent-Pole Scabbard and Picket Pin

An extremely nice and rare example of the 1913 “Patton” Cavalry sword, with its original tent peg scabbard and picket pin mounted on the scabbard. The sword is marked on the ricasso, “SA 1913” with the Ordnance flaming bomb between the” S.” and the “A.” on one side, and “US” over “1967” on the other side. The serial number 1967 places it among the first 1000 swords of this pattern made. The hollow tent peg on the tip of the scabbard is also a very rare item, as they were ordered removed in 1915, and only a very few are known to have survived. The picket pin in its original brown leather sheath is also a rare item to find intact on the sword. Dimensions: 44.75 inches long overall, with the blade being 35.25 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Very good overall condition. The sword and scabbard are in very good condition. The picket pin is seized in its sheath. The blade of the sword shows some use, and a little roughness along the edge, but the marks are extremely clear. The sheath for the picket pin has spots of stain, but the leather is stout and flexible.  The tent peg is complete and original, and hollow as it should be. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
