US 1913 Patton Officer’s Saber Sword in Garrison Scabbard with Frog

A scarce and very fine US 1913 Saber and garrison sword with frog, the sword dated 1913 and numbered 1918, so clearly one of the earliest 1913 sabers made. The basket of the guard is chromed, as is the garrison scabbard and it is in its correct officer’s pattern brown leather frog. The blade is marked “SA” for Springfield Arsenal, with the flaming bomb stamp of Ordnance, over “1913.” The reverse is stamped “US” over “1918.” This is the serial number, not the date. There is a large black rubber washer between the guard and the scabbard. The grip and pommel and backstrap are black. The garrison scabbard is fairly rare, only 2001 having been made. Dimensions: The sword in its scabbard is 43 inches long overall. The blade is 35.75 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The sword and scabbard are in very good to excellent condition. The blade is very good, but the cutting edge has been sharpened, and the chrome plating is worn. The chrome on the guard is excellent. The chrome on the garrison scabbard is very good, with a few minor spots. The frog is excellent, with minor signs of use. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
