US 1860 Cavalry Saber by Ames, 1861

1860 Cavalry Saber by Ames, with the very scarce and desirable date of 1861. The stamps on the ricasso are extremely deep and clear, with the Ames, Chicopee Mass. scroll on one side, and US over CGS over 1861 on the other. The sword is stamped ADK on the pommel as well as on the toe of the scabbard. The blade retains much original polish, as well as 95% of the original leather and 100% of the wire. Dimensions: 42 inches long overall, with the blade being 35.25 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The hilt has been slight bent, the quillon area being slightly shoved up, and the bars very slightly bent. The blade is bright, but there are traces of old rust and very tiny pitting along the edge and at the point. The scabbard is very nice, with minor spots of rust, but very clearly stamped on the drag. The grip is very good, but there are 4 minor chips in the finish of the leather. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
