US 1840 NCO Sword with Etched Blade by Horstmann

An extremely nice US 1840 NCO sword and scabbard, the sword having a handsomely etched blade, and the hilt having a cast down-turned guard of a kind associated with Roby, but the blade marked Horstmann on one side of the ricasso, and Philadelphia on the other side. The blade is handsomely etched, with trophies of arms, a banner, and vines. The back of the blade is etched with a pattern of very simple leaves. .The guard is interesting as it has a down-turned reverse guard decorated with a line with flourishes on the ends. The hilt is also slightly smaller than the regulation NCO. The scabbard is a conventional one for the 1840 NCO, with black leather body and brass mounts.  Dimensions: The sword is 36 inches long overall, with the blade being 29.5 inches long.  Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
