US 1840 NCO Sword & Scabbard by Collins

A fine and interesting 1840 NCO Sword and Scabbard, with metal bodied scabbard, with cast down-turned reverse guard, and with the Collins, Hartford stamp on one side of the ricasso, and Horstmann, Phila. on the other side. The sword is an interesting piece, since the blade was clearly produced by Collins, but the hilt with the cast down turned only seems to be found on Horstmann 1840’s, and the steel bodied scabbard is more frequently associated with Emerson & Silver, In any case it is a very nice sword, with a clean blade, and intact scabbard. Dimensions: 41 inches long overall, with the blade being 32 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

There is pitting at the very tip of the blade, although otherwise the blade is clean and fairly bright. The scabbard has several small dents on the drag, and the sword protrudes about ½ inch from the throat. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
