Remington Model 1858 Army Martial Revolver

This is a really outstanding Model 1858 Remington Army revolver in .44 caliber, serial number 19902, with the inspector’s stamps “A,” and “G” and “J” as well as a US Army inspector’s stamp on the left grip. The gun is in excellent condition, retaining a lot of its original blue finish, including about 80% blue on the barrel and loading lever, a similar amount on the cylinder, and about 50% blue on the frame. The gun has the two-line Remington address on the barrel, “Patented Sept 14 1858” over “E. Remington & Sons Ilion New York U.S.A.”  The gun has a crisp, tight action, and is the finest martially marked 1858 Army this writer has seen. Dimensions: 14 ½ inches long overall with the barrel being 8 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $35.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Overall about excellent, retaining about 70% blue overall, with more remaining on the barrel and loading lever. There is a stripe of minor pitting on the cylinder where the gun clearly lay for some time. There is some minor wear around two of the nipples. The bore is mirror bright and appears never to have been fired. The grips are excellent with clear inspector’s cartouche and a small amount of wear on the bottom of the left grip. The gun is tight and crisp, and locks up beautifully. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
