Presentation US 1860 Staff & Field Officer’s Sword

An absolutely beautiful presentation 1860 Staff & Field Officer’s sword by M.C. Lilley & Co., Columbus, Ohio, to Adam F. Yahn. The sword is essentially the standard 1860, but is a sparkling example of the sword, with a beautiful hilt and a Puma, Solingen blade. The hilt is beautifully gilded, and just a little more ornate than usual. The grip is very high relief ray skin, with twisted wire wrap. The reverse guard folds, and retains the spring catch to hold it in place. The blade is beautifully etched with an American flag, and a spread winged American Eagle with a ribbon in his beak with “E Pluribus Unum,” and the recipient’s name. The scabbard bears the presentation etched below the upper band: “Presented to Lieut. Adam F. Yahn, by Camp 44 R.C.U.K. St. John March 2nd 1897.” This is a military style unit of the Knights of St. John. Dimensions: 39.5 inches long overall in the scabbard, with the blade being 32 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The sword itself is excellent, with brilliant gilt, an outstanding blade, and a very handsome grip. The scabbard is beautifully etched, but there is some flaking to the chrome finish, and some staining on the presentation. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
