Pillow Pommel Officer’s sword with later Presentation Grade blade

A very handsome sword comprised of a British or American gilt brass pillow pommel hilt with a reeded bone grip, and a later, Civil War era superb German made straight, single edged presentation grade blade by Eickhorn of Solingen with blue and gold decoration including Hercules fighting the Nimean Lion on one side, and a classical Greek warrior on the other, as well as four large panoplies of arms and “Ironproof” in gold letters. The Eickhorn squirrel is stamped in an oval on the ricasso, which is etched “Eickhorn W & Sohn, Solingen.” The blade has a wide single fuller from the ricasso to about 8 inches from the point, where it develops into two fullers that run to the point. No scabbard.

Condition: The hilt retains most of its original gilt finish. The bone grip has two lengthwise cracks in it on either side, but seems sturdy. The blade has a faint patina, and very minor staining on the bright of the blade, but remains exceptionally handsome and nice. There is one very tiny spot of rust on the sharpened back edge of the point. There is minor wear to the blue and gold of the blade, but the finish and the etching remain outstanding.

Size: The sword is 39 inches long overall, and the blade is 33 inches long.
