Patton Saber and Scabbard

This is an exceptionally nice US “Patton” Sword and scabbard, model of 1913, and tent peg scabbard. It is dated 1914, and has “SA” (Springfield Arsenal) with a flaming bomb over the date, and US on the other side of the ricasso over the serial number 30065. There is a leather washer between the basket guard and the scabbard. The scabbard remains the generally issued black steel and heavy canvas over wood, but has the hollow tent peg of the very earliest issue swords. The tent pegs were ordered removed in 1915, but some remain unaltered. It is hollow, as part of its purpose was to allow water to drain out of the scabbard. Dimensions: 43 inches long overall, with the blade being 35 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
