Painting, Wallace Sawyer (1868-1945), View of China Slough, Sacramento

Framed oil on canvas depicting Sutter's Slough or China Lake, Sacramento (just north of 4th Street) by Wallace Sawyer (1868-1945). Signed lower right, "Sawyer / 89". Dimensions: (sight) 9.37"h x 13"w; (overall) 15.75"h x 19.5"w. Southern Pacific filled in this area around 1890. Sawyer was known as a landscape painter who was also an assistant to Wm F Jackson at the Crocker Art Gallery. He exhibited at the California State Fair in 1892 and had a solo exhibit at the Crocker Art Museum in 1938. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $50.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Stretcher marks visible on front of canvas. Foam board affixed to back (did not remove foam board). Restored by Northern California Art Conservators (their receipt is enclosed).
