Painted Image of Officer in Blue Coat, Bell Crown Shako, with Sword

A large oval painted photograph, possibly a daguerreotype, showing an officer in a blue frock coat with gold epaulettes, with a bell crown shako under his arm, and a large very curved saber in his other hand. His buttons are gold, his collar lace is silver on sky blue, and he is wearing a red and gold belt. The height of his collar suggests that the image was made around 1850. It has a narrow brass rim, and is held in a velvet lined leatherette case.  On the case is a label which says, “Member of the Van Kalmthout family, Paris, France.”

Condition: Excellent condition, with extremely nice painting that allows the details of the image to come through. The case shows some wear, especially on the back, but is intact and sturdy.

Size: The image is oval, 3 by 3 ¾ inches. The case is 4 by 4 7/8 inches.

Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
