Mounted Artillery or Cavalry Officer’s Saber Sword

A exceptionally nice saber for a mounted officer of either Artillery of Cavalry, circa 1810, with a beautifully detailed gilt brass hilt with “D” guard and birds head pommel, and a very handsomely spiral carved bone grip. The pommel and guard have cast leaves on them, and the langets have similar patterned detail. The blue and gold blade is exceptionally fine, and in beautiful condition, with large urns and trophies of arms. There is a resting lion at the base of one of the urns, which suggests British manufacture. The gilt brass scabbard is beautifully engraved on its front, also with floral type designs.

Condition: Excellent condition overall. There are 2 small cracks in the bone grip. The hilt is excellent retaining almost all of its original gilt finish. The blade is outstanding, with bright, rich blue, and bright gold in its engraving. The bright portion of the blade has some minor staining, and the point is very slightly bent. The scabbard is excellent, with 85% of the original gilt remaining. There is a dent on the drag. There is a small old repair on the scabbard between the upper mounts that shows up as an area of brass on the gilt of the scabbard. The sword is slightly loose.

Size: The sword is 34 ½ inches long overall in the scabbard. The sword itself is 33 ½ inches long, and the blade is 27 inches long.
