Model 1871 Uruguayan Mauser, with 1881 French Markings

This is a scarce Model 1871 German Mauser rifle that was converted to 6.53 mm. caliber by the Societe Francaise d’Armes Portatives in St. Denis, France. The gun shares both German and French elements, including a very unusual side mounted clearing rod, and marks from both French and German arsenals. The serial number is 87777, and the conversion took place in 1881. Only 10,000 guns, both rifles and carbines, were converted, and Uruguay soon replaced them with a more modern firearm. Dimensions: The gun is 51 inches long overall, with a 31 inch barrel. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Excellent condition, retaining nearly 100% of the original blue. The stock is also excellent, with only a very few minor handling marks. There is some dried grease on the bolt, but the gun is in genuinely excellent condition, with a tight, crisp action. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
