Massachusetts Artillery Half-Plate Ambotype, Shako & Crossbelt Plate

A really interesting ambrotype image of a Massachusetts Artilleryman in frock coat with shoulder scales, with a shako with red painted pompom on the table at his side, with the letters “MA” over crossed cannon under a shield shaped badge. He is wearing a crossbelt with a shield shaped plate on it with crossed cannon, the date 1801, and letters I cannot quite read.  He has a watch chain and a ring on, and an Imperial style beard. The image is matted with a relatively plain matte, and is housed in a leatherette case that has separated at the hinge.  It is possible that the date is 1638 and that this is a member of the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. Dimensions: 4.75 by 6 inches in the case. Processing and within continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Very good bordering on excellent. The image is extremely clear and sharp, and with a stronger glass the crossbelt plate should be legible. There are a very few minor scrapes to the emulsion, which seems stable. The case, although the leather hinge is split, is very nice. An extraordinary image in this size and quality.
