Man with Eagle Head Sword Ninth Plate Tintype

An interesting, probably Civil War image of a man in civilian attire holding an eagle head sword over his shoulder. The sword is clearly an American Ketland eagle saber. The image was probably made just before or in the early stages of the War to suggest the man’s preparedness to fight. The image is in a half leatherette case with a gold matte. Inside the case the reverse of the image has a paper label reading “From G.M. McClure, Photographer, Augusta, Illinois.” Dimensions:  2 3/8 by 2 ¾ inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

Very good. The image is extremely sharp and clear. The case is only a half case, but is in good condition. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
