Large Indian Dhal Painted Leather Shield

An intricately painted older Mughal period painted leather shield, with a subtle leaf pattern covering the main face of the shield, using black and dark grey colors. The rim of the shield is painted ox blood red, with tremendous detail, with a contrasting band of white with red and black details. The four bosses are raised brass, with red velvet circles behind them. The reverse still has the cushion, but the handles are missing.

Condition: There are several chips missing from the painted face of the shield, one being two inches long. The cushion on the reverse is frayed, and missing part of its stuffing. There are several large chips on the rim, one 1 ½ inches long.

Size: 23 inches across, and 3 inches deep.
