Hand Drawn Civil War Map of Camp Davies, Mississippi

A very attractive and rare hand-drawn map of Camp Davies, site of the Battle of Camp Davies, on November 22, 1863. In the battle, which was small enough that it should be referred to as a skirmish, Union forces numbering only 70 men of the 1st Loyal Alabama Volunteer Cavalry fought a force of Confederate Mississippi troops more than double their number, driving them back towards their own lines in a considerable disarray. The Union force was commanded by Major Francis L. Cramer, a newly promoted 26 year old, and the Confederate troops were commanded by Major Thomas W. Hamm.

The map is quite detailed, showing the camp that was Fort Davies in great detail, including tents, hospital, and even sutlers. It has a presentation from P.L. Edwards to M. Fergeson . The map also includes ravines and gullies, trees, the railroad line, a stockade and American flag, all exceptionally well executed.

Condition:

About excellent, with wear at the creases. The edges are slightly wrinkled, but the body of the map is excellent.
