German Sheutzen Style Target Rifle by Schmitt of Lindau

A superbly engraved German Schuetzen rifle by I.B. Schmitt of Lindau, with exceptional engraving, including cherubim- one of which is holding a crossbow- and carved stock, featuring a hunter in lederhosen. This is a superb, exceptionally well decorated schuetzen, originally in about .32 caliber, but sleeved to .22. The action features incredibly detailed engraving of the highest quality that extends to the ornate trigger guard. It has a falling block action, similar to a Martini-Henry, but smaller, and of better quality. The trigger is double set, and it has a large Creedmore type sight mounted on the tang. The disc of the sight is larger than most, and the tang and block on which the sight is mounted are also ornately engraved. The stock is also engraved, especially on the butt, which features a Tyrolian scene with a lederhosen clad hunter holding his rifle over his head, with a background of a Tyrolian house. The wrist if checkered, and framed in carving, including a fan on either side of the breech. The barrel is octagonal, with both an adjustable sight, and a horned blade sight at the muzzle. The Schuetzen butt plate is engraved and case hardened, with peacock colors remaining.  The gun was originally in about .32 caliber, but has been sleeved to .22 caliber. I.B. Schmitt was a gunmaker prior to 1900, when he turned to knife making. Dimensions: 44 inches long overall. The barrel is 26 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
