Frosted Eagle Glassware ( 2 pieces )

Two (2) Pieces of American Pressed Glass, a covered compote, and a covered dish, both in the "Frosted Eagle" pattern, identified as having been made in Ohio in the 1870s by the Crystal Glass Co. of Bridgeport Ohio. The large compote stands on an elaborately decorated flaring foot, the lid surmounted with the 'Frosted Eagle' that gives the pattern its name, while the two-handled dish sits on a truncated version of the compote's foot, the lid again surmounted with the "Frosted Eagle". The compote measures: 11" H x 7" W, while the handled dish measures: 7" H x 7 3/4" W (measured handle-to-handle.) All four  pieces (two bases/two lids) in fine condition with no chips or roughness.

Comes with an interesting newspaper clipping about a papier maiche figure of an eagle that was the mascot of a Wisconion Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, then later was used as a symbol of the Republican Party. The eagle figure made an appearance at the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, and the collector seems to suggest this figure might have been the inspiration for the finial.
