French Model 1822 Foot Officer’s Sword with US Stamp

A very fine French Model of 1822 Officer’s Sword, as commonly carried in the US Civil War. This one has a fine sharkskin grip with single strand wire wrap, with a fine single edged blade with a slightly enlarged double edged. The blade has two fullers, a large one and a narrow back fuller, and the back fuller broadens at the point. The ricasso has two French proofs on one side, and the letters “U.S.” shallowly stamped on the other side. There is no scabbard. Dimensions: 35 inches long overall, with the blade being 29 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $65.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. 

Condition:

Very good, with the blade retaining much of its original polish. The hilt retains most of its original gilding, and the sharkskin wrapped grip is excellent. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
