French made Eaglehead Saber Sword

A handsome French made eaglehead saber, with blue and gold blade, and spiral carved bone grip, circa 1810. The front langet has an American eagle on it, with a Union shield on its breast. The reverse langet has a spider web pattern engraved on it. The “D” guard forks as it approached the pommel to form a loop for the sword knot. The curved blade has generic decorations including floral wreaths, and a trophy of arms. There is no scabbard.

Condition: Very good condition overall. The bone grip has a long lengthwise crack in it. The blade has rust spots on the bright part, and the blue has faded, but is mostly intact and bright in areas. The gold in the engraving is largely intact and also bright in some areas. There are two small patches where the blue is gone, possibly from finger prints. There are several tiny nicks along the edge. The hilt is slightly loose.

Size: The sword is 35 ½ inches long overall. The blade is 30 inches long.
