Four Civil War Military Cabinet Card Photos

Four cabinet card photos of Civil War subjects, three made from War time images.

  1. 1) Union Cavalryman holding Burnside carbine.
  2. 2) Union Staff Major with sword.
  3. 3) Union Drummer boy with drum and inscription.
  4. 4) Post-Civil War image of Brigadier Col. William Harvey Gibson of the 49th Ohio Volunteers.

The cavalryman is in shell jacket and forage cap with carbine cartridge box at his waist and his saber on his lap.

The Union Major’s image has been removed from its hard card backing, but is intact otherwise. He is wearing a light colored sash and holding a staff and field officer’s sword in his hand.

The Drummer boy has a long but fairly faint inscription that names him, says he was under 14 years of age, served in Co. K of the 142nd Pennsylvania Volunteers. The name is faint but seems to start with the letter “B.” The image is by Wilkins & Co, of Brazil, Indiana.

Col. Gibson was a distinguished officer who was breveted Brigadier General at the end of the War. Dimensions: All four are standard cabinet cards, 4 1/8 by 6 ¼ inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

All are in very good condition. The Major’s image is missing the stiffening card. The cavalryman’s image is faded. The drummer and Colonel are excellent. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
