Eaglehead Officer’s Saber Sword, with blue and gold blade

A simple “D” guard gilt mounted saber, probably for a mounted officer of artillery, circa 1810. The guard itself is completely plain, but the eaglehead pommel is beautifully detailed, with raised feathers, that may be partially hand engraved. The grip is simple reeded bone. The curved blade has beautiful blue and gold, and has “Warranted” on one side in a curved band of gold. The engraving includes a military trophy in which is a spear topped by a Liberty Cap. There is no scabbard.

Condition: The sword is in extremely good condition. The hilt and grip are excellent, the guard and eagle retaining most of their original gilt. The blue and gold on the blade are almost entirely intact, and fairly bright. The bright part of the blade has some staining, and traces of old lacquer. There are 2 small nicks on the edge on the bright part of the blade.

Size: 34 inches long overall, with the blade being 28 inches long.
