A handsome eagleheaded officer’s sword with a simple reverse “D” guard with plain langets, a bone grip with spiral carving, scabbard and a band of carved leaves at the top. It dates from about 1810. The blue and gold blade is marked “Warranted,” so may be British made. It has a handsome spread-winged American eagle on it, with a Union shield on its breast with 15 stars, and the eagle has a ribbon in its beak with the words, “E Pluribus.” One of the trophies of arms has a spear with a Liberty Cap on top of it. There is also an urn with a face on it, as well as sprays of florals
Condition: Very good condition overall, but the “D” guard is bent, there is a crack running the entire length of the grip on one side, and the bend of the guard has affected the fit between backstrap and grip. The blade is extremely nice, but there is some staining towards the point, especially along the back edge, and there is a tiny patch of pitting at the very point.
Size: 35 ½ inches long overall, with a 30 inch blade.
