Confederate Officer Oval Tintype with Inscription Dated July 4th 1863

An oval tintype housed in a blue velvet case of a Confederate officer in a frock coat with metal buttons and dark blue or black collar tabs showing his rank as 2nd Lieutenant, probably on staff.  There is an extensive and hard to read pencil inscription inside the case that has the words, “my all” in it, and ends with the date July 4th, 1863. This was the date of both the second day of Gettysburg and of the fall of Vicksburg, so it seems likely that he was present at one or the other. Dimensions: The image is 2 ½ by 2 7/8 inches in the case. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The image is in fair condition. There is a bend in the plate, and the image is clearer above the bend than below. The reverse of the plate is rusty. The upper half of the image is fairly clear, but the lower half is hard to see. The case has a broken hinge, but is otherwise very good.
