Civil War Union Infantryman Half Plate Tintype in Case

A very fine tintype image of a bearded Union infantryman in frock coat, forage cap, waist belt with oval plate, cross belt with eagle plate, and bayonet on his belt. The image is in a very nice leatherette case with velvet pad, but no matte. It has a modern inscription on the back presenting it to Mr. Buxtun from a well-known San Francisco Civil War collector in 1994, but there is no doubt that the image is an original.  Dimensions:  4 5/8 by 6 by 5/8 inches in its closed case.  Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The image is extremely nice, although it is slightly turned on the plate. The case is extremely nice, and scarce in such a large size. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
