British Saber Sword, similar to the 1796 Light Cavalry Saber, by Osborn and Gunby

A magnificent presentation grade light cavalry of light infantry style saber with scabbard, superb gilt brass mounts, including lion face quillons, a pierced reverse P guard, and an almost pistol grip pommel somewhat similar to the 1788 style, with a fine bone grip with gilt wire in the grooves. The sharply curved blade is beautifully decorated with a large Hanoverian coat of arms and crown, and on the other side a large figure of Britannia, armed with a trident and a shield with the cross of St. George, and a large thistle. Etched on the ricasso is “Osborn & Gunby Sword Cutlers to His Majesty, Warranted.”  The reverse “P” guard is finely pierced with laurel leaf designs.

Condition: Very good to excellent, with the hilt retaining almost all of its fire gilt. The blue and gold decoration on the blade is largely intact, with very minor spotting along the edge. The bright section of the blade has traces of old rust along the edge and back of the blade, but retains most of its bright original polish. The grip has two good sized cracks.

Size: 34 inches long overall, with the blade being 29 inches long. The blade is 1 ½ inches wide at the guard.
