British 1796 Infantry officer’s sword

An exceptional condition 1796 Infantry Officer’s sword and scabbard, with pristine blue and gold decoration, including a Hanoverian crown, a large script “G,” a standing infantry officer in cocked hat with drawn sword, a bicorne hat, wearing a gorget, as well as a panoply of arms with a Tarleton helmet, and more. The grip appears to be silver wire wrapped, and the reverse guard is hinged. There is a red Morocco leather washer at the ricasso. The back of the straight, single edged blade has the engraved maker’s name, “Woolley & Deakin.” The blade retains a mirror-bright finish towards the point.

The blade is in superb condition, with the blue intact everywhere except the high spots along the back of the blade. Everywhere else the blue is rich and unmarred, and the bottom half of the blade generally retains its mirror bright finish.
