Bavarian Court Sword of the reign of King Ludwig I

An extremely fine Bavarian Court Sword of the reign of King Ludwig I who ruled Bavaria during and after the Napoleonic Wars, The sword has a beautiful gilt brass hilt, with the lion couchant of Bavaria, and a brass plaque on the mother of pearl grips with the stylized letter “L.” The “D” Guard has lions’ masks on both sides, and the sword retains its gilt sword knot. The straight narrow blade is beautifully blue and gold, with a large script “L” on each side under gold crowns. Bright acid etched panels are interspersed with the blue and gilt, and there are military trophies as well. There appears to be a maker’s mark under the down-turned sideguard. The scabbard is black leather, with gilt brass mounts that match the decoration on the hilt. The gilt sword knot has the Bavarian crown embroidered above the tassel.

Condition: Excellent condition throughout, with minor wear to the sword knot. There is some very minor scuffing on the scabbard leather. The blade retains its brilliant blue and god, and the bright portion of the blade remains mirror bright, with a few old finger marks on it.

Size: The sword in scabbard is 37 inches long overall. Out of its scabbard, the sword is 36 ¾ inches long. The blade is 31 inches long.
