American Militia Staff Officer’s Sword

A very handsome US Militia Staff Officer’s Sword similar to Peterson’s 114, but of larger dimensions, with a fighting blade. The hilt and scabbard are highly decorated gilt brass, with a nearly pistol pommel, a chain guard, ornate crossguard, and exceptionally well carved bone grip. The center of the crossguard has a feathered headdress on it, and the quillons are down drooping. The scabbard has an engraved frog button, and is beautifully engraved over most of its surface, with patterns of swags and florals. The drag has leaves engraved on it. The double edged blade is acid etched.

Condition: The hilt and scabbard retain most of their original fire gilt. The grip is excellent, with no cracks or chips whatsoever. The blade is heavily pitted over most of its length. The scabbard has a few minor dents.

Size: The sword is 36 ½ inches long overall. The sword out of the scabbard is 36 ¼ inches, and the blade is 30 inches.
