American made 1821 French Infantry Officer’s style Child’s Sword by Lambert, Philadelphia

This is an incredibly nice child’s version of the American non-regulation sword based on the French model 1821 Infantry Officer’s sword, as carried by many American officers both before and during the Civil War. It was made exactly as the adult version would have been, but in a smaller scale. The sword is marked J.H. Lambert, Philadelphia at the ricasso. The brass hilt is beautifully made, with a fine leather wrapped grip, with a single strand of brass wire. The blue and gold blade is beautifully decorated with trophies of arms and florals, and the maker’s name is etched in gold on the ricasso. There is also a stamp right where the blade joins the hilt that appears to be a French proof. There is no scabbard.

J.H. Lambert was a born in France, but emigrated to America where he became a known Philadelphia sword maker in the post-Napoleonic era.

Condition: Excellent overall, with a brilliant blue and gold blade retaining almost all of its original color. The bright portion of the blade remains bright in original polish. The hilt is excellent, as is the grip.

Size: 29 ½ inches long overall, with the blade being 24 inches long.
