Rare Quarter Plate sized Littlefield & Parsons Union case with an English Civil War period scene of a lady riding a bull, with a gentleman leading it, and Cromwellian troopers behind. The reverse of the case is a plain oval. The daguerreotype within is of a young, possibly African-American lady in a charming pose, wearing a shawl over her dress. The image has been bent at some point in the past, but is still quite good. The case is essentially perfect. The image is 4 ¼ by 5 ½ inches.
Superb Union case of flying angel carrying the baby “Morning,” the child holding a torch. This is an unusual version of this rare case, as the angel is flying in the opposite direction to other versions that are seen. The angel is particularly well-sculpted, and the baby “Morning” is nearly 3-dimensional. The title “Morning” is under the figures on both front and back. The daguerreotype image within is of three people, husband and wife with mother-in-law with a hand on each of their shoulders. The image is 3 by 4 inches.
Scarce Sir Henry Havelock Union case with daguerreotype portrait of a gentleman. The image has a small dent by the gentleman’s ear, but is otherwise quite good. He is a rough looking man, but in very fine clothes. The case is wonderful, with the Havelock motif on both front and back, and in superb condition. The image is 2 5/8 by 3 inches.
Scarce “The Chess Game” Littlefield & Parsons Union case in a rectangular format. This case is more frequently seen as an octagonal case. It has a charming scene of an Elizabethan gentleman and coy lady seated between pillars playing chess. The daguerreotype within is a portrait of a young gentleman in a boldly striped bow tie that extends past his lapels. The image is faded, but the case is superb.
Very fine and early Union case with Jacobean designs with a lady at the center, with a daguerreotype within of a young couple, the man wearing an interesting striped shirt and very crumpled tie, the lady looking quite charming with a small smile, wearing long earrings, her husband’s hand on her shoulder. The image has two spots on it, but is otherwise extremely sharp and clear. The case is excellent. The image is 2 ½ by 3 inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
The cases are all excellent, bordering on mint. The images are as described, several being slightly faded, the likely African-American woman’s image being bent.
