11 Daguerreotype Portraits, Including 5 Photo Brooches

A very interesting grouping of daguerreotype portraits, including five that are either mounted in brooches or watch cases. 

Daguerreotype portrait of a young man about age 12, clearly a student, dressed in grown-up clothes including a floral vest, holding an open book. The image is in half of a leatherette case. This is a slightly faded, but excellent image with a lot of character.2 ¾ by 3 ¼ inches.

Daguerreotype portrait of an attractive young woman identified as a member of the family that made Maxwell cars of Tarrytown, New York. She is wearing a short-sleeved dress with a large bracelet and a gold painted brooch at her throat. The image is faded, but still quite visible, in a half leatherette case. 2 5/8 by 3 1/8 inches. 

Daguerreotype portrait of a bearded gentleman in a top hat and formal clothes. The image is quite faded but still visible. It is in a gold colored matte. 3 1/8 by 4 inches.

Daguerreotype portrait of a woman in an unusually plain dress. The image is only slightly faded, and is in a leatherette half case. 2 by 2 ½ inches.

Small daguerreotype portrait of an attractive young woman wearing an unusual starfish shaped lace collar, with earrings, in a gold colored matte. 1 ¼ by 1 3/8 inches.

Small daguerreotype portrait of a young man with carefully coifed hair, and a large cravat. The image is in a gold colored matte. 1 ¼ by 1 3/8 inches.

A gold and silver pocket watch style case for two images, but with only one, a round daguerreotype of a sad looking woman. The image is quite clear, and is 1 3/8 inches across. There are no marks visible on the case.

A very nice gold and silver colored watch case style case with a round daguerreotype portrait of a young man wearing a n extremely large bow tie. The case has a velvet pad, and is beautifully engraved. The image is 1 ¼ inches across. There are no visible marks on the case.

A gold colored oval photo brooch with a daguerreotype portrait of a young man. The man’s face is faded, with corrosion at the edges. There is a label attached stating that the piece came from the Anderson Estate and that the family came to Phoenix, Oregon in the 1850’s. There are no marks visible on the brooch. The photo is 1 inch tall and ¾ inches wide.

A gold and silver colored brooch with a daguerreotype portrait of a man. It is barely visible. The image is oval in a basically rectangular brooch. The brooch is a very nice piece of jewelry with very nice engraving and a pin back. The image is 1 1/8 inches tall.

A gold and silver colored photo brooch with a daguerreotype portrait of a man with long hair and a very large bow tie. The brooch is octagonal as is the image. The brooch is pin back. The image is 1 3/8 inches tall.

A badly cleaned oval daguerreotype portrait of an older woman in a small oval frame with broken flanges for holding the image in place. The frame appears to be gilded brass. The image is 3 inches tall by 2 3/8 inches wide. Processing and shipping within in the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.
