Double cased Tintype of armed Union Cavalryman and Union Infantryman

A beautiful and scarce half-plate thermoplastic case with figures of a Greek Evzone and his sweetheart on both front and back. Inside are two extremely nice tintype images: on the left is an armed Union infantryman with a dirk in his belt, standing at order arms with his probably French 1857 Minie rifle and saber bayonet. He is wearing a forage cap, and his cap box is visible. On the right is a seated cavalryman holding a regulation cavalry saber. He is wearing shoulder scales and a forage cap. Both images have gold paint added to their buckles.

Condition: Excellent condition. The case is excellent, with no damage whatsoever. The images are both quite sharp and clear. The right hand image has a small area at the top that is very slightly discolored.

Size: The images are 3 ¼ by 4 ¼, the left image being in an oval matte. The case is 4 by 5 inches, and 7/8 of an inch thick when closed.
