6 Civil War CDV’s of Union Officers, 4 with ID’s.

Six carte de visite images of Union officers during the Civil War, four of them identified. One is a bust photo of General McClellan with his name faintly written across the bottom. The second is of General William H. Emory, famous as an officer of the Corps of Topographical Engineers, and served with Kearney in California, not only establishing boundaries and borders and mapping, but making significant note of social conditions. In the Civil War he rose to command 19th Corp and saw action at port Hudson and Cedar Creek where he was cited for saving the Union forces engaged. After the Civil War he was promoted Major General in Sept. 1865. The third image is of General David Stanley who commanded 4th Corp of the Army of the Cumberland, and won the Medal of Honor at the Battle of Franklin. The fourth image is Lieutenant D. F. Baldwin. The fifth is a bust portrait of a Union Lieutenant, unidentified, and the last is a lithograph image of Col. Ellsworth. Dimensions: 2 ½ by 4 1/8 inches each, except for two which have been trimmed to 2 by 2 ½. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $30.00 plus 1.5% replace cost insurance.

Condition:

The first three images have been trimmed. The cdv of McClellan has had its corners rounded, but is otherwise excellent. The next two have been trimmed down to 2 by 2 ½ inches each. The other three are all full-sized and untrimmed. The image of Lt. Baldwin has minor foxing. Witherell's strives to provide as much information and photographs as possible but encourages in-person inspection by bidders.
