19th Century Swan Compote

SWAN COMPOTE. Early pressed glass Swan compote, with Swan finial. Designed (and patented) in 1878 by David Barker for Crystal Glass Co. of Pittsburg, Pa. Compote stands an imposing 12 1/2" from foot to top of swan, and measures 8" across the top. The sides bear reserved medallions depicting swans amongst reeds, these set against a hobnail ground. The compote is raised on a fluted stem, and the finial depicts a swan, preening its feathers. The bottom edge of the lid has some tiny little 'nibbles' but otherwise both base and lid are in fine condition.
